Terraclan of the Dusted Quarry

Post by Mew-Chan on Tue Feb 25, 2014 10:50 pm

A moon has passed since the night which bore many tragedies showed its yellow, full face.
Tensions have greatly risen between Featherclan and Emberclan since the discovery of Glowpaw's body in Featherclan's territory, and thus it is believed that a cold war is fast approaching. Despite how Featherclan denied any knowledge on the reasons for the dead apprentice and even offered that Muddyleaf, who had been caught on Featherclan's territory as well, might have been the suspect, Emberclan remains sternly set on blaming those of the forest.

Not too long after the death of Glowpaw came Clashfang of Featherclan. Though no clear scents were upon his form, Featherclan greatly believed that it was an attempt of revenge from Emberclan, despite how the fiery clan denied even knowing about the warrior's death. Within the current time period, many skirmishes along borders have broken out and threats between rivaling clans further grow.

Yet, worst of them all has been Terraclan, the supposed main suspect of the mass killings prior as they had yet to lose a soul, has now been believed to be making a comeback. Due to the death of her younger brother, Flashstar has been quite grief-stricken and paranoid of all others around. Much to the point to where she believes that all the other clans are targeting the clan of the quarry. Because of the leader's extreme fear for her clanmates, none are allowed to leave the territory and all patrols have been limited to 5+ members per party. Along with this, the medicine cats have been restricted from going to the Moon Meadow for the typical sharing of tongues with Starclan. Most astonishing to the other four clans of Terraclan's sudden change in behavior was how they failed to attend the last Gathering, as they had become even more skittish and wary of the other four after the heated accusations towards the quarry clan during the Leaders' Meet; thus only four battles were fought during the Moon of the Mates and no new couples were made. Many are unsure whether Terraclan's latest actions are helping or hurting their cause.

However, all others aren't well either, as fear has stricken them hard. Only about half a moon ago, the body of Nightwing was found dead close to the back border of Berryclan's territory that reaches off to the farm. Although such allowed the thought that maybe the she-cat had wandered too close to a barn cat's territory to rise among the members, the idea that the murders from many moons past still weighs down heavily upon their thoughts. Without a leader to guide them, Berryclan has become quite melancholy- very similar to Shineclan- and many have believed Starclan has abandoned them for not naming a new leader, Yellowmoon being one of the strongest believers of such a theory.

Along with Berryclan, tragedy and fear have swept through the smallest clan as Shineclan has begun to suffer from an extreme food shortage as the cold seasons lurk closer. However, they are too fearful to seek assistance from their closest ally, Terraclan, to which all the clans have come to understand and respect why they are so timid- after all, they were the only clan to lose a leader during said former killings. And yet, rumors have begun to spread that they have turned to Berryclan, hoping to for an alliance with the larger clan so that they may support each other in the highly anticipated war rising. Another rumor, though much less mentioned and highly ludicrous, is the idea that they two may unite to create a super clan with the assistance the rogues who have been scented around the territories more often and supposedly have been thought to be in cahoots with the clan of flowers.

Even so, despite the pressures which all clans seem to be burdened with, nature has decided against easing up on the cats and resuming pushing full force upon them. Although it is only the middle of Leaffall, illness has already struck the clans strongly as Tinypelt, a new queen of Berryclan, was taken by the deadly Greencough and the rest of the clans are worried that such a sickness may soon spread...

"Get back here!! The whole lot of you- GET BAAACK!!"

The shrill, cracked cry of the leader jostled the kits from their play near the dusty camp's entrance, pulling the four into a state of pure stupor. However, with a swift shake of her head to gather back her senses, Shadowkit waved her feathery tail to gain the attentions of her littermates before spring forward, barreling back into the center of the camp clear. With a scoff, the limber kit could hear her siblings' clambering paws just behind her and her eyes flicked in annoyance over to where Flashstar stood in the mouth of her den. The bounciest and eldest of the litter narrowed her pale gaze of now eggshell green, and snorted at the sight. "Whatever," she snapped out under her breath, only to receive a swift knock to the back of her head by Shinepaw as the runt of the litter strolled by her tall sister as if nothing happened. With her charcoal and white fur fluffed up threateningly, Shadowkit bared her teeth and hissed with an arched back,"Hey Shinekit! I know it wasn't you who just did that, was it?!"

The young she-kit with a face half of charcoal grey and gold snickered and flicked open her once closed eyes, revealing a gaze of icy blue and sharp gold. With a slightly cocky grin, she sneered without looking at her older sister,"I may be half blind, but that doesn't me I have to suck at sneaking up on stupid cats." The youngest of the litter chuckled darkly as she sidestepped to the right to dodge the form of Shadowkit diving for her. However, because she moved to her blind side, the two-toned kit stumbled slightly and crumpled to her belly beside her sister's collapsed form. She gritted her teeth with a scowl. Damn my depth perception!! Even though she took a more embarrassing fall, Shadowkit will never let me hear the end of this!

Redkit and Grapekit merely stood a few tail-lengths away, watching their littermates have at it. Although Grapekit seemed to look on with genuine confusion, Redkit sneered slightly before tilting her rosy nose upward and strolling off in a sleek stride past her, in Redkit's words, 'pesky pests' of siblings over to the fresh kill pile. Sniffing the warm air around the pile of fur and flesh, she delicately dug through the small bodies in search for a tasty morsel. After all, she was the only one of her siblings who had been successfully weaned from her mother's milk with no longer a desire to feed on the sweet, but quickly depleting nectar. Her littermates, however, were less willing to drop habit and convert to fresh kill at the current point, which Redkit thought was 'immature and mouse-brained.' It quickly became apparent to the older cats that Jademire's second-born was the most matured kit of the litter as she already seemed to understand the predicament of her mother's milk running dry. This, of course, was also due to a lacking in Borage growing in the territory as the cold weather was not helping the already fairly barren landscape.

~

Watching the kits move from their original playing spot to an area deeper within the clan, Flashstar felt her hackles lower slightly with ease, but her body was still racked with heavy tremors as she worried about the kits becoming too caught up in their play and accidentally wandering too far from the clan's center. Such caused a shiver to shoot up the leader's knobby spine as the started she-cat to leap out into the center of the camp clear, out from her shadowy den. As the light hit her, Flashstar's pelt was ablaze with a fiery color, however, the once lavish pelt seemed to have completely lost its vigor. Now, the she-cat was quite the sight to behold...but all for the wrong reasons. Her once buoyant curls were now gone and her coat was a matted mess laden with filth and grime, as if she hadn't touched it in moons. However, her unkempt coat was the least of her concerns as her overall form seemed to shrink at least half in size. Her bones could easily been seen from beneath her caked-on pelt and her joints were knurled and swollen from stress and soreness. She appeared extremely scrawny, like a cat who's been starved for days on end, and the pitiful creature's lackluster eyes were wide with lightless fright.

Springing towards the playing kits with agility and speed quite surprising for her state of being, Flashstar stopped next to Shadowkit and Shinekit, much to the fighting kits' surprise. The leader seemed to be completely oblivious to their astonishment, despite the horrified expressions shown on their faces, and Flashstar plucked Shinekit up swiftly in her jaws. Ignoring the great thrashing that she was doing, most likely out of pain from how tightly the ginger she-cat was biting into the young kit's scruff, Flashstar reared back and harshly dropped Shinekit on the dry ground a good few paces away from Shadowkit, the other three kits staring dumbfounded. Without even checking to see if the kit who landed on her head was alright, Flashstar emitted in a sharp scream,"No more playing!! No more!! NO MORE!! Back to your den and DON'T COME OUT!!" As she wailed in a frantic fit which sent the kits running and crying back to the Nursery, Sandrazor bolted through the camp's entrance from the outside and rushed to her kinmate's side.

Hazel-grey eyes wide with shock, the deputy murmured in a soft, but worried voice,"Flashstar, chill. Calm down now." Although a frantic glow glittered from her saucer-sized gaze, the sandy Abyssinian bit sternly onto Flashstar shuddering shoulder and pulled her down to the ground, murmuring inaudible words into her friend's fur. Shortly afterwards, Sandrazor carefully dragged the twitching bundle of limp limbs and flame-colored fur across the clearing and back to her own den.

After a moment of taking in the entire scene, the lean form of Nettlepalm rushed from where he stood at the camp's entrance and hurried over to Shinekit's sniveling and whimpering form as she struggled to her paws and attempted to stagger after her sisters and brother back to their den. In a gentle voice, the young warrior cooed,"Shush shush, it's alright. Its okay." After calming the sniffling kit who whined about her throbbing head, the sand-colored tom quickly picked her up by her tender scruff and carried her was gently as he could back to the Nursery. Upon entering, he noticed a trio of nervous, bright gazes darting to him from the darkest corner of the den and Nettlepalm's heart sank a little as he trotted slowly in to set Shinekit in her mother' empty nest. Jademire must've snuck out after our patrol then. She hasn't let Bleachfang go anywhere without her, and he the same to her. These poor kits need someone to watch them. Shaking his head, he turned to leave, but paused. In a low voice, he mewed,"It'll be better soon. Flashstar too. I'm sure my mother's just a little sick is all." He trotted briskly back out into the beaming sunlight- the dank darkness of the stuffy den making him feel nauseous. Perking his tuft-tipped ears, his honey eyes watched as the rest of his and Sandrazor's hunting patrol entered the camp. Smazeskies was at the front, holding her own small sand hawk, as well as Sandrazor's catches that were two shrews. Just at her flank was Sapshade with a horned lizard and tawny mouse, and behind the couple was Bleachfang, and sure enough, his mate- Jademire. The bleached-white tom carried a raptor which was much larger than Smazeskies' own kill, and the pretty queen of cream, white, and black fur carried in Nettlepalm's own catches which consisted of a trio of mice hanging by their tails from the she-cat's clamped jaws. Wrapped around her feathery tail was a thick layer of cobwebs, which allowed the youngest warrior to emit a sigh of relief and mutter under his breath,"At least she did something useful- even if we really don't need more cobwebs, I'm sure Moongazer will be glad to have the surplus." The warrior was just glad that Jademire had actually returned with something this time around- last time she had snuck out, upon their return, she had been scolded for leaving the camp. It was made even worse that she had no logical reason behind leaving for Bleachfang, nor did she have an excuse by coming back with a catch of prey or anything at all. Shaking his head softly, the prickle-pelted tom turned and slowly began his short trek to the Leader's den to check up on his 'ill' mother.

Cesiousflame emerged from the warrior's den, his chest and paws glowing like hot white metal against the dull brown terrain in the clearing. From the edge of the den he'd watched with his turquoise eyes veiled in sorrow as Flashstar lashed out at the kittens playing in the clearing.

His irises trailed after Sandrazor and Flashstar as the deputy led the fiery she-cat into the leader's den. The dark gray tabby warrior had taken dusk patrol the evening prior and was only slightly worn. Flashstar's precautious actions were leading his muscles to soften and walking the perimeter of their territory was getting a little tiring. It made him feel like an apprentice again, the whole idea of getting out of shape.

Flashfeather ducked out of her and Moongazers den with a sigh when she heard the commotion that was going on outside. However it wasn't particularly a shock to her that this had happened. Tensions were running high and Flashstar was getting stressed about the murders that had been going on recently and the fact that Terraclan was one of the suspects for the murders. As she left the den should managed to catch Flashstar picking up and then dropping Shinekit. As she couldn't see Jademire anywhere-She didn't really like the queen after their argument a few moons back in which Jademire had been calling her and Moongazer negligent in their duties- she went over to the nursery and went inside. "Are you guys all okay?" She asked them all.

The bright silver tail of Lightningpaw unfurled from its curled position around her body. She gazed around sleepily, ears catching the sounds of her mentor's screaming voice. The shoulders drooped in sadness as she pictured Flashstar, a shell of the mighty leader she once was. Lately, her sister was waking up before her - mainly because Speckledpaw couldn't find herself at peace enough to sleep well. But Lightningpaw was ambitious and couldn't stand being left behind in training. She'd always ask Speckledpaw what she'd worked on and practice it by herself if Flashstar didn't train her. Lightningpaw uncoiled her lean muscled shape, blinking as she exited the Apprentices' Den. She spotted the dainty calico frame of her sister and trotted over to her, looking down at Speckledpaw. Lightningpaw had grown over the last few moons, now taller than her sister, whose size had been her own just a while ago.

Speckledpaw looked up at Lightningpaw with sad pale, gold eyes that she had just tore the gaze from Flashstar's den. The calico tilted her head in acknowledgement to her sister as Lightningpaw sat down. After a moment's silence, Lightningpaw spoke, "Do you think she'll get better?" Although she spoke quietly, her words were bold and fierce. Speckledpaw avoided meeting her gaze and turned her eyes' attention elsewhere. "I don't know," she said softly. "You have to understand losing her younger brother has been very hard on her. Death always is on a cat who has a heart. We have to let her heal with time; it isn't a wound on the outside that you can heal with herbs, it's hurting on the inside."

When have you become so wise? Lightningpaw bit back the words, gripping the leash on her cranky mood. She let out a sigh, shifting her paws. "I guess you're right," she said, though she couldn't help but still feel frustrated and irritable.

Ruinraze tutted loudly, a deep sigh escaping from his maw. "Poor Flashstar," he muttered, swishing his tail dramatically. "It's a damn shame what's become of 'er."

"Sure is," Silverscreech agreed, chuckling in spite of it all. She couldn't get enough of Ruinraze's attitude-everything about it made her laugh. From his overconfident disposition to his melodramatic ways, he was like a big, fluffy toy to her- and this toy never got old.

"Shut it, both of you," Burrowhopper said, exasperated, as he listened to the two. No doubt Ruinraze would make Flashstar's condition revolve around himself, somehow, and Silverscreech would act like it was all a silly game. The pair made him sick to his stomach. He was do full of loathing that he wanted to shred their ears.

"Calm yourself, Ass-" Silverscreech's taunt was cut off as she was struck with the limp body of a shrew. She chortled and called, "Fhabks for breakfast, Assburger!"

He hated that, he really did. He didn't even know what Assburger meant, only that it had something to do with his name, those damned kitty pets and their strange words would be the absolute death of him, and Burrowhopper knew it.

Gingerpaw lay on the dusty ground, tail flicking absentmindedly. She was very thin now, and quite close to being of age to become a warrior. Thank god; All this useless 'do this, do that, no, no, yes, no' stuff was driving her berserk. She was ready to be the one in command. The one making all of the decisions. The one on top. She could see it now: A tall ginger she-cat standing high on the Terraclan rock with confidence. Gingerstar was her name, and her clan as the strongest clan there ever was! There would be no stopping Terraclan with her as thier leader, and certainly she wouldnt let a mangy tom try to take over her life from her!! Either he was coming to her clan or she was not budging, Dammit!

Re: Terraclan of the Dusted Quarry

Post by KatDoggs on Sun Mar 16, 2014 1:37 pm

It was befoe dawn when Lionroar, Tigerwrath and Desertstorm snuck out of camp. Ever since Glowpaw's death, Flashstar had been really limiting cats from leaving. Most patrols had to leave with five or more cats. Thankfully in Tigerwrath and Lionroar's case, they could just leave with one other. The large tom brothers had proven that they could take on just about anything without any issues. Getting ambushed by five cats, no problem. They could easily take care of it. The only concern was Desertstorm.

Lionroar's young kit was the only surviving from his liter with Icestorm. Just the loss of his mate and the other two kits drove Lionroar into a pit of depression. Flashstar and many of the older clan members remembered how bad it got for him. The tom had become very over protective of Desertstorm and hardly let her do anythign as as kit. It was Flashstar who gave her freedom. After her birth, it was Flashstar who acted as the kit's mother Even now, Desertstorm thought of her as a mother.

Today the three cats ventured to the edge of their territory where Icestorm and her two kits had been buried by Lionroar. Upon their arrival they rolled on their backs and started to watch the sunrise. This was a tradition the Lionroar, Desertstorm and Tigerwrath had kept up every week. Once a week, they would venture to Icestorm's grave and watch the sunrise.

"I used to do this every morning." Lionroar mewed out solemly. "Not many cats in Shineclan see the sun. So Icestorm always wanted to get up and watch the sunrise and the sunset." Lionroar said this almost every time they came here. No one would tell him to shut up though. It was just one of the ways that the tom cat felt closer to his mate.

Aftet the sun was high into the sky, the three started their trek back to camp.On the way the spotted a hawk. Almost instantly, the three began to chase after it. Catching the large birds of prey was a tradition among the three of them. They saw it as a challenge an they would NEVER turn down a challenge! It was Lionroar who sprang up to knock the bird from the sky. Tigerwrath caught it and pinned it down. Desertstorm was able to delived the killing blow. Afterward the three caried their massive catch back to camp. Upon entering, they noted that Nettlepalm had disappeared into the den of the leader.

"Looks like you may want to go check up on Flashstar..." Desertstrom mewed out quietly. Tigerwrath grunted in agreement with his former apprentice.

"You're probably right..." Lionrar mewed out. Having been in the similar state of utter depression that Flashstar was in, he often found himself going to help her. "But you better go off to the Warrior's den so Flashstar doesn't know you snuck out again."

"On it!" The ruddy abyssinian was gone in an instant. The last time she left without permossion, Flashstar had given her quite the tongue lashing. While the young warrior knew the leader meant well, she could protect herself. But that never went over well...

Lionroar padded to the edge of Flashstar's den and peered in. He had to dip his head slightly as he was too tall to fit into the den at his full height. "Can I be of any assistance?" The lionlike cat asked curiously.

Scarflame had seen the nervous glances. He saw the way his own clanmates looked at him. The scarred tom had been sitting in camp, watching the other cats. The hunting patrol got back, and it looked like Flashstar had told off some kits. He shook his head, ever since the murders, everything was tense. He got up, and shook out his fur. A twinge of pain came from his shoulder, but he ignored it. My shoulder is fine. It will get better in a little while. He told himself as he walked towards his friend, Cesiousfllame. "Flashstar really scared those kits, huh?" He meowed as he sat down next to him.

"I feel bad for her. She lost her brother just a while ago," Cesiousflame responded, turning his head to look at his denmate. "But, she's going to make those kits afraid of their own shadows. Actually, she's making everyone afraid of their own shadows. Sure, she's just doing it to keep us safe, but keeping us from attending the Gathering? As much as I like Flashstar as our leader, maybe she should let up a little. The last time I got to go on a border patrol was two days ago and I'm starting to go stir crazy."

Moongazer padded out of the medicine den, and headed towards the fresh kill pile.  She would have something to eat, and then get straight to work. She picked out a small piece of prey before settling down to eat.

Galefeather was resting when her kits, Duskkit and Harekit, jumped on her. "Wake up Mama!" They said together. They weren't amazing at talking yet, and they only seemed to know that one phrase, and exactly when to use it.

Scarflame nodded, "I haven't gone out on a patrol in a week. It's like she doesn't trust me anymore. But, look at me, I wouldn't trust myself!' He laughed weakly. "I hope that someone will find the source for these deaths." He then tried to relax, but he stayed stiff and tense.

As his two family members padded off, Tigerwrath wandered over to the there talking cats. They were talking about how crazy they were going in camp. "Be thankful none of you are Nettlepalm or Desertstorm." The tom mewed out, taking a seat by Scarflame. "She hardly let's those two out of her sight."

"You don't think Flashstar's being too strict, Tigerwrath?" Cesiousflame asked the massive tom as he sat down, his query not a fact as much as it was a curious question. The warrior shuffled his paws to make more room as Flashfeather appeared, calling out a greeting reply at her presence.

Flashfeather listened, intently to what they were talking about. From what it seemed they were talking about the precautions that Flashstar had put in place. She didn't like them either and sometimes, when she could, she would slip out of camp to be on her own. She had basic fighting training so she could defend herself if necessary- although if warriors and apprentices were having difficulty then she wouldn't have much hope.

"This clan is to her as a kit is to it's mother." The elder tom mewed out. "I honestly can't speak on how she is being strict." After all, Lionroar and Tigerwrath were able to leave camp most of the time without any argument from Flashstar. "I'm sure Desertstorm would agree with you though. I, personally, think she's in the right." He agreed up to the point when she started yelling at the larger tom cat. Usually Lionroar took care of calming the ember furred leader. "However if you want to go out, join me on patrol. I'm sure I can convince Sandrazor to let us out." If he couldn't, then perhaps Lionroar could.

"I guess I can't really relate, as I have no kits or family or anything like that," Cesiousflame admitted, his right ear flicking softly. "And Flashstar trusts you and Lionroar the most out of all of us, you're both closer with her than I. I'd like to join you on patrol sometime, thanks Tigerwrath," he said, adding the last sentence with a more gracious tone. "I just miss going to the Gatherings the most," he said, stifling a sigh. Sure, they'd only missed one so far, but he missed the fun and excitement under the full moon.

"Aye. I understand missing the Gatherings." Tigerwrath hadn't seen Leopardfury for almost two moons. The last moon she was hurting. From what information Pumaclaws had shared with him and Lionroar, via their special codes, Cheetahswift was dead. Not only Cheetahswift, but another warrior form Featherclan. Warriors of Berryclan have passed on as well. Shineclan was unknown though. Tigerwrath had yet to see Pumaclaws so he could not question her. Since Flashstar had been keeping the clan away from danger and other potential threats, information was scare to come by. It was times like these when Tigerwrath thanked Starclan for the codes developed by him and his siblings. It was the only way he could get information to them and from the clans.

"I haven't seen my siblings in quite a while now..." Tigerwrath grumbled out. "We also have no idea what's happening in the other clans." Communication by the borders had been scarce. "I may try to go out later today if any of you are up for it. I'll try to talk Lionroar into it."

"I wouldn't pass up a chance to get out of camp, especially if it gave me some insight on how the other clans are faring." Cesiousflame felt bad for the cats like Tigerwrath- having family in different clans during this certain time period must have been awful.  "It'd be nice to know if the other clans have figured anything out."  And I'm curious to know if any other cats have been killed. After how abruptly the last Gathering had ended, many were probably wondering the same thing.

Flashfeather looked at Moongazer, "If they're going out can i ask to go with them? We're starting to run low on some herbs and i'd like to get out for a bit if i could" Although she had her full name and was officially a full medicine cat, she was still Moongazers' apprentice and would be until Moongazer joined Starclan or retired. She wasn't looking foreward to that day although it might be nice to have an apprentice of her own.
